If you grew up in a small town in the deep south, you know that the sweet tea is meant to be spilled, and the ghosts outnumber the living. Our guest today is the host of Tombigbee Tales, a podcast that exposes the uncomfortable truths of Columbus, Mississippi. And, living in multiple haunted houses in Mississippi, she’s got quite a few ghost stories. In today’s episode, Shannon tells us about all the ghosts she’s seen…and felt, smelled, heard, and even pissed off. Because this woman isn’t afraid of anything.

About the Guest: Shannon B. Evans

We have a lot in common with Shannon: from her daily graveyard walks in the birthplace of Tennessee Williams, to her daring podcast about the dark underbelly of Columbus, Mississippi, to the casual way she talks about all the haunted houses she grew up in. Haunted Houses in Mississippi

Is Shannon just a ghost magnet, or is every house in Columbus, Mississippi haunted? First, she tells us a story about a house she lived in where a ghost wearing old lady perfume hid her kitchen gadgets. Then she lived in a house where ghosts haunted both the nursery and the wrap around porch, wafting the scent of cigar smoke through her open windows. And then, she tells us about the time both she and her dad heard a disembodied voice…twice. Then, she tells us about a séance she attended where objects in the room moved on their own. She goes on to tell us about a wounded Civil War soldier who returned home more than a century late.

Mississippi Ghost Stories

Even with all these haunted houses in one tale, we in fact haven’t had that many guests with ghost stories that took place in Mississippi. I think Stacey Williams-Ng told us about staying the night in a haunted house in the Mississippi Delta in our episode about ancestor communication with an oracle deck. That’s about it!

Have you ever encountered ghosts in Mississippi? Why not submit your story to be on a future episode of Homespun Haints podcast? C’mon Mississippi folks, help us have another spooky day!
