Episode Summary: How There Came To Be A Mass Grave Under Galveston
In this episode, Eddy takes us on an auditory ghost tour through the history of Galveston, explaining how pirates, hurricanes, civil wars, and mysterious diseases contributed to its present day haunting. We learn about the infamous Great Storm of 1900, a catastrophic hurricane that swept through the island, claiming the lives of over 8,000 people. The aftermath saw hundreds of bodies washing ashore, too waterlogged for funeral pyres, and too plentiful for in-ground burial on the island.
The title of this episode is a reference to the fictional work Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans. When you hear Eddy talk about about how the nuns at the orphanage tried to save the children from the storm, but ended up sealing their fate instead, perhaps you’ll catch the reference…and a little chill. Eddy says that the tragedy ultimately resulted in a very haunted toy section at the Galveston Walmart that was built on the orphanage’s location.
A Respectful Ghost Tour of Galveston
As Eddy recounts his experiences, he emphasizes the importance of respecting the spirits of the departed. With 95% of the spirits he encounters being benevolent, Eddy shares some light-hearted ghost stories, but also acknowledges the darker side. Not every spirit is friendly, so it’s critical for anyone interacting with the paranormal to proceed with caution and respect.
Can Spirits Move Around Anywhere at Will?
And if so, why do classic hauntings occur at only one location? Eddy explains in the episode how he believes some spirits lose the ability to think correctly, and that’s what results in haunted locations and haunted objects. The earthbound spirits hold on to familiar items and places that they recognize as a comfort within the confusion of death.

Premonitions In Dreams
“Premonitions come to us in the strangest ways,” Eddy said during our interview. For example, a girlfriend of his had a precognitive dream she told him about. In the dream, she had an ominous vision of a “crooked old man” in a specific building in Galveston that she didn’t recognize. She felt like the dream was a cry for help, from the spirits trapped there.
She and Eddy went to the Rosenberg Library, the oldest library in TX, to check the archives. It turned out the building from her dream used to exist. They found out that the building from the premonition was once owned by an old man who walked with a cane, who was alleged of child trafficking.
